Typical Project Process & Steps


In general, alternative energy projects, either greenfield (new site) or brownfield (retrofit/existing site), can be summarized by a four step process flow. ALTERNATIVE ENERGY Consultants can provide professional services for all four steps complete. Or, you can decide where you would like to leverage our expertise to perform one or more steps - the choice is yours!  Typical project timelines can range from three months to one year or more, depending on several variables, including project size & complexity, equipment lead times, obtaining stamped A&E drawings, permit approval process, installation complexities & scheduling contractors, weather, etc. The typical process is shown below:

INITIAL CONTACT & PREQUALIFICATION

  • Initial contact by phone, e-mail, or in person.
  • Answer questions & understand customer desires/needs/objectives.
  • Determine cost of enegy today and energy use (electric, NG, etc.).
  • Prequalify application to determine if fuel cell or other energy system is feasible.
  • If both parties agee on prequalification results and our fee schedule, go to process step 2.

SITE SURVEY & TECHNICAL ASSESSMENT

  • Site survey to determine installation feasibility.
  • System sizing & technology evaluation (fuel cell, microturbine, or engine-generator based).
  • Determine electrical/mechanical interconnection tie in points to building.
  • Contact Equipment OEMs, schedule meetings & presentations with customer, coordinate. OEM site surveys, and request budgetary estimates (BE's) with turnkey installation estimates.
  • Review BE's with customer and determine which OEMs will be asked to provide a final, formal proposal; go to process step 3.

FINAL PROPOSAL & IMPLEMENTATION

  • Solicit final, firm proposals for turnkey solution for selected OEMs.
  • Review proposals pricing, scope of work, financial value proposition, and environmental benefits with customer.
  • Ask the "tough" questions to qualify technical & financial value proposition.
  • Confirm environmental benefits, including CO2 reduction, water reduction.
  • Award project to selected OEM.
  • Site design, A&E stamped drawings, obtain permits, system installation - we provide support for and manage entire process; go to process step 4.


4.

COMMISSIONING & COMPLETION

  • Review pre-commissioning checklist with installation contractor(s) and OEM for completeness.
  • Manage commissioning process to be sure equipment/energy system is fully functional.
  • Coordinate customer training, as required.
  • Review OEM service agreements with customer.
  • Turnover system to customer - Project complete - enjoy the energy savings from your new on-site power solution!
